Increasing Access to Mental Health Care Resources

Conversations around mental health and wellness are becoming more and more common and normalized in our culture. Despite this, not everyone in our community has access to affordable, high quality mental health care services.

There are several barriers to mental health care access, including finance and insurance constraints, social stigma, and scarcity of mental health providers. Members of marginalized populations face even greater barriers to accessing mental health care services due to systems of structural and institutional oppression and racism.

If you’re interested in increasing access to mental health care in Durham, NC, please consider a one-time or recurring donation to Radical Healing’s Black Mental Health Fund (BMHF). As stated on the Radical Healing website, “100% of all funds will support direct aid to our Black queer and trans mental health therapists in providing free and more accessible mental health services to Black queer and trans clients.”

Compass Center in Chapel Hill, NC, is another organization that works to increase access to mental health services for trauma survivors through the Mental Health Access Program (MHAP). Through MHAP, Compass Center “provides 16 one-on-one sessions with a licensed therapist for domestic violence victims and their families at no cost to the client.” Donate to Compass Center here.
